Zune Linux Website has opened!

Mys Videl is the lead Media Director and the Debugger of Zune-Linux. X, who is the leader of the project, states, "Zune Linux needs a bit of polishing in order for it to be ready for a public release. Bijoux (Mys Videl) has made major progress in getting the Zune to run a distro but there is still much work to be done. I cant estimate the timeline because it really depends a number of things (including Microsoft updates). Stay tuned to Zune-Linux.com and the Zune-Linux forum and we'll keep you up to date."

The beginning stages: Zune Linux

It has been determined that the Zune can run Linux based upon its uses of a Freescale iMX31L processor. Read more here...

For quite sometime now there have been people working on getting the Linux to boot on the Zune. Mys Videl from zuneboards.com has posted an update the other day on his progress. She states:

"Yes, I've been working on it for quite awhile and has a lot of bugs to work out and a lot of features to work out. It currently has to be booted while synced and has limited capability's but I've at least got it partway working. Hopefully I can get mine released before the competitors though Smiley."

Microsoft wants to put Linux on the Zune!

I spent December seventh, eighth, and ninth in Seattle as Microsoft's guest. Microsoft flew me there from Florida at its expense, put me up in a nice hotel, provided decent food, and comped me and four other invitees to this "special conference" with presentations about the marvels of Vista and other recent or upcoming Microsoft products. They didn't quite play the old Beatles song "Love Me Do" in the background, but it was the event's unstated theme. And, as a free bonus, Microsoft gave me a free Zune to pass on to a developer who wants to put Linux on it or make a utility that will allow it to interact with a PC running Linux.
