The beginning stages: Zune Linux

It has been determined that the Zune can run Linux based upon its uses of a Freescale iMX31L processor. Read more here...

For quite sometime now there have been people working on getting the Linux to boot on the Zune. Mys Videl from has posted an update the other day on his progress. She states:

"Yes, I've been working on it for quite awhile and has a lot of bugs to work out and a lot of features to work out. It currently has to be booted while synced and has limited capability's but I've at least got it partway working. Hopefully I can get mine released before the competitors though Smiley."

Also there's a lot of talk about it being a fraudulent attempt to bring web traffic to their message board. So far, I see tons of request for proof out there but for some reason she can't even provide an excerpt from the code. When people started grilling for proof she closed the thread. I don't know Mys Videl, and I'm not saying she hasn't done what she says, I'm just saying there's no proof, yet.

Yea, this is true. I was also wondering the same thing, but when I saw that they were the administrator...I had more faith in her post... She did say that it is in the very beginning stages and their isn't a whole lot going on. Hopefully she will post more things in the future so she can show some proof.

im suprised if this really works. im not saying she hasnt done this but its a lot of code. The zune doesnt boot of the hardrive, while th ipod does. the only way to get this to work i would say is to somehow get the zune to recognize an excutable file and have it bypass the system. but Ipod Linux is easier do to the fact it boots fro its hardrive. Zune has built in memory chips that run the system and the hard drive only hold media Zune
